According to Fabrizio Romano, Lucas Torreira is prepared to join Galatasaray after finally accepting the proposal from the Turkish giants. This week, there was a bit of an impasse as the transfer looked to have collapsed, but things have now been resolved. Lucas Torreira is finally set to leave Arsenal after the club had made it abundantly clear he was not in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the 2022/23 season. Such has been the case since the Spaniard took over at the club, resulting in the Uruguayan midfielder embarking on two separate loan spells.

Torreira continues to earn high wages at Arsenal, and the club were keen to get him off their books. While the north Londoners were hoping to see Fiorentina trigger their purchase option clause worth €15 million, the Serie A club backed out, despite being impressed by the midfielder. Torreira was part of Arsenal’s pre-season tour but barely featured during this period. In the last few days, Galatasaray made an offer to Arsenal, which the Gunners accepted before waiting for the player’s approval. Despite early indications the proposal might get accepted, a move looked to be stalling.

Galatasaray reportedly grew frustrated and were looking at alternative options like Tiemoue Bakayoko in the market. However, the delay in Torreira’s decision was the supposed interest from Valencia. Valencia held talks about signing the Arsenal midfielder, but they were unwilling to pay any transfer fee considering their financial conditions. Instead, they asked Arsenal to sanction a loan move, but the Gunners wanted some fee in return, which is why they accepted Galatasaray’s offer.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Torreira has finally accepted the proposal from Galatasaray and will soon join the Turkish giants permanently. Arsenal are set to receive €6-7 million in return for the Uruguayan midfielder. Torreira is expected to fly to Istanbul in the coming days to undergo a medical, among other formalities. Gibbs insists Arsenal have enough squad depth and they won’t miss the Uruguayan.
