When former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger announced that he would be leaving the Emirates Stadium over a year ago, the club’s fans were divided. While come would have wanted their former French manager to stay back, some others were accelerating his departure from the club. Wenger joined Arsenal a long time ago and set a legacy at the north London club after being in charge of the team that went all season without tasting a single defeat. That team was named “The Invincibles” and they would go on to lift the Premier League title that year.

However, after some years at the helm, there was a new tradition of only challenging for the top four spots in the league. Wenger’s Arsenal team was known to no longer have a strong push for the title but instead appeared more comfortable and satisfied with cementing a top-four finish at the end of the seasons.

That mentality brought about the different opinions of the club’s fans, with many claiming that Wenger should become more active in the transfer windows than he was. Arsenal were known to be a tight-budget club and it was not a frequent occurrence that they would sign a player for a hefty sum. This tradition continued for a long time and according to Wenger, it was one of the reasons why he could not achieve some of his goals.

Wenger’s former player Kieran Gibbs has now come out to hail the ex-Arsenal manager, insisting that Wenger was always a top coach even though situations and circumstances kept coming his way. Gibbs also added that while some of Wenger’s failures was caused by some players, the club’s owners also did not do well enough to provide funds adequate to recruit the kind of players that would have helped them fight for trophies
